Lolita
Lolita is an orca whale in need of your help.
In 1970 Lolita was taken in a mass capture in Penn Cove off Whidbey island. Lolita was the only 4-6 year old to be captured and survive. She was then taken to the Miami Seaquarium and paired with a male orca named Hugo.
Hugo was very unhappy with his tank and surroundings, even though he had company. He was constantly banging his head against the thick glass of the viewing window. Once, he managed to break the glass, but sliced of the tip of his rostrum in the process.
Hugo and Lolita shared a tank for ten years, until one day Hugo rammed his head against the side of the tank and died. Lolita has been alone in her tank ever since.
The tank that Lolita is in is much smaller than the Orca whale tank legal requirements. She is working in show buisness, performing 2 performances a day, for the past 40 years. That means that she has performed over 29,200 performances over the course of her life.
The Miami Seaquarium has made millions of dollars off of Lolita. It's time that they pay her back by setting her free.
Lolita is only 49 years old. -- Josephine Compton
